Hair loss affects individuals of all age groups, genders and ethnicities, and its emotional impact can be devastating. Fortunately, there are now great options for restoring thinning hair.

In our practice we approach hair restoration comprehensively by combining different modalities for enhanced benefit. We recommend topical or systemic minoxidil to promote blood flow to the hair follicles, nutritional supplements specifically designed to support the health of hair follicles, and procedures to restore the follicles and activate growth.

The brand of hair support supplement we recommend most is Nutrafol. Nutrafol is a dietary supplement which is scientifically proven to improve thinning or shedding hair and is specifically tailored to different patient populations to achieve better results.

One of the most innovative and effective hair restoration treatments available today is the injection of Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM). This procedure harnesses the body’s own amazing ability to regenerate through activated stem cells and growth factors released by platelets. It is effective, safe, natural, and has no more than a few hours of downtime.

The PRFM procedure starts with a simple blood draw. The blood is then centrifuged to separate the liquid portion of the blood (plasma) from the solid portion. This plasma is full of activated platelets, which are shown to initiate and promote healing. This PRFM is then injected into the scalp in the areas of thinning hair. The PRFM activates a cascade of physiologic reactions, stimulating the growth of new hair follicles and increasing the strength and thickness of the hairs. This response is gradual, and results vary from person to person. The number of treatments needed depends on the individual patient, the desired outcome, and the degree of hair loss.

SELPHYL® is the system we use for collection and preparation of PRP to PRFM.

This is a well-studied procedure, known for its safety and efficacy. The entire procedure takes about 30 minutes, and for most people discomfort is minimal. To address discomfort during injections, we offer ProNox (a mixture of equal parts of nitrous oxide and oxygen commonly referred to as “laughing gas”), which helps to reduce any anxiety and pain associated with the procedure. We recommend coming in for a consultation and medical screening in person to learn more about the procedure, and to discuss appropriate before and after care.
